October Home Maintenance Must-Do: Protect Your Home’s Exterior Before Winter!

With cooler temperatures settling in and winter just around the corner, October is the perfect time to focus on your home’s exterior. A little preventative maintenance now can save you from costly repairs and cold-weather headaches later.

Key Exterior Maintenance Tasks

Inspect & Clean Your Gutters – Falling leaves can clog gutters, leading to water damage and ice dams in winter. Clear them out now and check for any leaks or sagging sections.

Check & Seal Exterior Gaps – Small cracks around windows, doors, and siding can let in cold air and pests. Use caulk or weatherstripping to keep your home warm and critter-free.

Examine Your Roof – Look for missing or damaged shingles and address any needed repairs before snow and ice arrive.

Drain & Store Garden Hoses – Disconnect garden hoses, drain the water, and store them inside. Leaving them connected can cause pipes to freeze and burst.

Winterize Outdoor Faucets & Sprinkler Systems – Shut off and drain exterior faucets and irrigation systems to prevent freezing and costly damage.

Get Ready for Colder Days

By taking care of your home’s exterior in October, you’ll be one step ahead when winter weather arrives. Need recommendations for local roofers, handymen, or landscapers? I’m happy to help!
